Are there any good tricks out there for securing the front D/W brackets to the underside of a granite counter top. There is no wood bridge across the underside of the counter top in the D/W opening.

Drill a small hole with a masonry bit and use plastic anchors and screws. A local hardware store will have what you need.

The granite installer should have glued a 1x1 across the span of the dishwasher for you to screw the tabs into. I've never had experience in drilling granite, so I'll leave that decision to you.

The granite installer did not put any wood across the top of the D/W opening because of the age old problem of the kitchen having been tiled and raising its elevation.

I have masonery drills and even a 1/4" diamond hole saw. Is there much danger of the granite cracking when drilling within 1-1/2" of the edge. I just don't know its tendencies.

There was a similar post a while back..and someone recommended an adhesive bracket. I'll see if I can find it....

Couldn't find the thread...but I'm pretty sure this is what was mentioned.

I'd not be so eager to start drilling holes in the granite, and yes it can crack. See above what chandler said.

I appreciate all of the responses. Those Granite Grabbers look pretty neat and we have the best hardware store in the Free World here in Boulder, so there is some chance of finding them reatail. If not, the Internet.

I am not very keen on drilling granite near and edge, since the price of failure is pretty high.

In my experience, more often than not on a remodel, there is a fairly large gap between the top of the dishwasher & the bottom of the stone. This is due to the fact that most of the older tile or laminate counters have a self edge than hangs down 3/4" below the top of the cabinet. Most granite installations do not hang much below the cabinet top. For this reason a piece of wood matching the cabinet faces measuring 3/4" x 3" x 24" needs to be adhered to the bottom of the stone with clear, non staining silicone, or epoxy. Then of course the screws have somewhere to go.
The grabbers are indeed a great find for jobs where there is no 3/4" gap, & I will be adding a link to their site on mine!
