As part of a kitchen update, we are having new countertops installed in the near future and are going to have an undermount stainless steel double bowl sink. Both bids include a sink. One calls for an Amerisink and the other, an Eclipse. A third contractor said that both were "Taiwan knockoffs" of an Elkay sink. Of course, I know nothing about sinks other than whether or not they leak so I am wondering what is good and what is good enough.

I hear of 16ga and 18 ga... I know this is a difference in thinkness. Does it matter?

What really matters in sink selection other than prefered style?

Brand? Thinkness? Insulation?

I am not looking to break the bank but want a good sink. If it helps in the decision, this is going in a house that we will be in basically forever and plan on this being the only kitchen updating that we will have.

Thanks!

The better sinks will normally be thicker gauge and have a coating of sound deadening on the bowls. They may also have a higher grade of stainless...but I don't know if that info is available.

Thicker gauge means less noise and flex around the faucet and drain holes.

Some of the Pro's may be able to give opinions of the brands you mentioned.
