I just purchased a Johnson 25 HP outboard from Craigslist. I tried pulling it before buying and it turned over the motor good, seemed like good compression. I got it on the boat, hooked up the gas, tried pulling to start, and the recoil will not catch to turn the motor over. How big a job is this to fix?

The job isn't bad as long as the rope still recoils back into the housing. Take the recoil off the motor flip it upside down and take pictures, this will make it easy to reassemble. You shouldn't need to take the rope out or take the spool out of the housing.
