GE washer, model WPRE6100GOW makes a grinding sound in agitation mode and basket goes back and forth splashing water over the tub top. Digital motor LED flashes 4 times indicating" check mode shifter coil".
Sears part # WH38X10017 includes the whole spin tube.
Has anyone replaced this before, looks like a big job.

Not to bad to do have to take tub out and disassemble. Take agitator out first, The tech people from GE are saying to replace motor to.

you need to have a GE spanner nut wrench to remove the left hand thread hub nut. i would cut my losses and buy a whirlpool direct drive if it was mine.

Thanks guys. Looks like a $300 repair, not counting new motor. While I was watching this beast malfuntion, it did agitate for a brief period when in the rinse cycle.
