We are just about to re-decorate our lounge/diner and are in the process of getting quotations from painter/decorators. One has said, as it is such a large area, that a spray paint job would be best and my partner is very keen on this idea. However, I'm a bit nervous about it and would prefer it done by a traditional roller. Does anyone have any advice please?

Thank you very much.

Welcome to the forums!

A lot depends on what type of surface is being painted but I always shy away from spraying in occupied dwellings. The work involved with containing the overspray often negates the time saved. Walls often always benifit from back rolling if they are sprayed.

I'm not sure what is being painted - is this a room or a piece of furniture? Regardless, I'm on board with Mark and would prefer not to have a sprayer going inside my house. I do all my inside painting with brush and roller.

I think it is a business that would be painted after hours but not enough info is known to give a definite yes or no answer.

Agreed, if you spray, you'll be removing overspray for years. Sometimes the hit and run mentality of spraying lends itself to poor preparation, and in your case in a diner, there is bound to be grease and other cooking remnants that will need to be washed off the surfaces.
