Regarding a Kwikset deadbolt replacement.....
Trying to replace my older model deadbolt with a "Smart Key/ Bump Protection" deadbolt. I have a problem with removal of the old deadbolt with a allen set screw on the thumbturn. Once the allen screw it removed from the thumbturn it does not want to come off. Short of cannibalising the old deadbolt is there anyone who may offer me suggestion how to remove this deadbolt?
Thank you

I've never had to take the thumb turn off. You sure this needs to happen? No insult intended, as you could be correct, I've just never seen this situation.

What's the brand of lock you're trying to remove?

The kwikset Titan series deadbolts were slightly heavier duty than the cheapie version. They usually had a small allen set screw holding the thumbturn on.
Undoing the allen key virtually all the way is required to pull the thumbturn off. Then with a flat blade screwdriver, remove the trim (it slides off). Undo the black retainer screws and remove deadbolt.
