My GE dishwasher will not heat up. It runs through all the cycles, but the water is not hot. It drops the soap tablet out of the dispenser, but it remains undissolved at the end of the wash. Any suggestions as to what is going on with it?

Most likely the heater is not working or is not coming on. Can you post the model #?

Is that an easy, inexpensive fix for a poor novice? lol

before replacing the hetaer, shut off the power to the DW, disconnect the leads from the element [underneath the DW] and test it for resistance. Then, while the machine is running, check to see if you get voltage to the element. Check during the wash or water heating part of the cycle. Parts & Accessories | Shop & Find Lawn & Garden, Appliance Parts at Sears PartsDirect | SearsPartsDirect.com (http://www.searspartsdirect.com) shows part # WD5X70 for $30 and calls it heating elemnt assembly which means it should come with new grommets, washers and nuts. You might find it cheaper on EBay. Are you sure the DW is hooked up to hot water and that your hot water heater is set for 140 degrees? Let us know how you make out. The feedback helps others.
