I have done my daughters room with laminate so I am not totally new to it. But I am going to be doing a rather large job using it. About 600sq.ft. going from my hall way into the living room. Have several questions before I begin. I am going to lay it long ways following the hallway. When you go down the hallway and enter the living room it opens up to the left so would I start in the hallway and then when entering the living room work my way to the left (which is oppositte of the normal way you lay it out, going away from you). Or if I start in living room I will still have to go an oppositte direction once I get to the hallway (right to left). Also: there are like 4 door ways in the hall way. I don't need to cut the door jambs if just using a transition and the flooring won't be entering the rooms. Basically put the transition where the jamb is. If not clear enough let me know I can take some pics.

When I did my laminate, in the LR, thru hall and hallway to front door, back down hallway to bath and then into the DR..I ran my boards widthwise, that is, parallel to the windows (or the width of the main rooms) in both LR and DR, so that the those 2 rooms look wider..and the area in the hall(s)was of short lengths, in line with the boards leading from LR (thru halls) and into the DR....if that make sense...
So if my LR is say 10x16 my boards ran 16` ..and down the 7`(long) x 4`(wide) hallway leading to the front door, the boards are 4`wide....following the same pattern as the LR-DR..and into and thru the hallways...all in the same direction.
Down the other end of the hallway, it leads to the guest bath with an office off that hallway. There, I made a change of direction since that room is 9`D x10`W with a window on the 10`wall. ...so those boards run the 10`lenth (or width of that room) with a transition where the hall and òffice` meet`. Makes the room look wider...
Hope that makes sense....too!!
