Take a look at this picture of my bathroom. We had to replace one really piece of plywood in the subfloor- Where the 3 pieces meet there is a little gap. Should I put another layer of 3/8 plywood and then the cement backer board? (I'm putting ceramic tile in)... Right now- the current subfloor is about 1.5" below top of toilet flange. Will I be able to level off any low spots that way?

How thick is the current subfloor?
You are going to be following the directions of the cement board, correct?
You will want the toilet flange to be sitting on the finished floor height.

How thick is that plywood? Did you install blocking between the joists to support the edges of the plywood cutout?
Adding additional plywood is always a good idea.:)
Right now- the current subfloor is about 1.5" below top of toilet flange.
Sounds like you need to do a lot more than add 3/8" of plywood. What was there before, a mud bed?
