Humidifiers and Dehumidifiers - truesteam humidifier recomendation

Hi

The time has come to add a truesteam humidifier to my house. Therefore I hope that you guys could recommend which unit to install for my house.

I have a 3000 sq ft home , bone dry in winter , no hardwood, only tile and carpet
that has a

lennox g8q4-150-9 furnace
a/c york 3 ton a/c unit
fan control center r8405b1009

with a honeywell Model # RTH7600D thermostat
I think

first which truesteam should I go with ?

and can it be wired into this setup?

Its a highboy furnace , so is there enough room at the top with the york coil to install the TS?

Which version of the TS is best I think I want automatic control, ie what does iaq give me ?

According to the specifications on page 22, you should go with the 12 gallon TrueSteam for a 3000 sqft home. You don't want to undersize this unit. I went with the TrueIAQ humidistat because I was happy with my current thermostat. The VisionPro IAQ would probably have been a better alternative because it will be much easier to wire up the humidfier to the furnace. In addition, you will be able to run the TrueSteam in auto and manual modes whereby the TrueIAQ only allows for auto operation. Keep in mind that if you go with the VisionPro IAQ you will also need to purchase an outdoor sensor and 18 guage wire sold seperately.

As for duct mounting the TrueSteam. The dimensions of the unit are 11-1/4 in. W x 19 in. H x 9 in. D. So long as your plenum can accommodate this size with some room to spare, then your in business. If not, you can always remote mount the TrueSteam.

Keep in mind that if you go with the VisionPro IAQ you will also need to purchase an outdoor sensor and 18 guage wire sold seperately..

The outdoor sensor is not required. You can do it if you want, otherwise, you do it with out.

Jay all those wiring tips you gave me have been working great .

Honestly, I'd have a local dealer put it in. That way if something wrong, you can go to them and they will take care of it under warranty.

If you get it off of E-Bay, or another on line dealer, you will not get support from Honeywell themself since the TrueSTEAM is a "Pro" model that should only be sold and installed by a pro.

If you are willing to take the risk to let the Warranty go by getting it cheaper online, go for it.

I understand where Jay is coming from as far as having a pro do it with a warranty. But $1300 for a humidifier install? That is rediculous. We are talking roughly $700 - $800 in labor costs for a couple hours of work. You could purchase two of these 12 gallon TrueSteam humdifiers and any extras needed yourself and still save a couple hundred dollars as well. If you are up to installing it yourself, go that route. That is what this site is all about.

I did not realize the added expense for our neighbors in Canada. I suppose that going with a contractor would be wise in your situation. However, the winter season is coming to an end. If you could hold out and see if you could get a better deal in the summer, it might be worth it.

I had a few quotes for my 12 gallon install. For a complete install one quote was $1150. That included the wiring for a new 15amp circuit that a 12gallon truesteam requires. I decided to do the wiring myself and saved $300. I would have a contractor install it like Jay says so that you can get their support and honeywell's 5 year warranty if there are problems. I don't want to talk you out of a truesteam, but have you considered a bypass humidifier unit? For homes that have furnaces that run often, it might be a more cost effective solution. As mjbxx mentioned it might be wise to wait until next fall since spring has sprung and summer isn't far away (at least in southern MN). It would give you more time to get a couple more bids too.

I think I"ll wait and see if anything develops such as a sale on these items, sounds like good advise. They usually take longer to get these things to my neck of the woods. Also, thou the quoting vendor is reliable and has done much work in my area I have to find out if they include honeywell's warantee / garantee? ( they are not easy to talk to if you know what I mean) sometimes these things get lost in the push / rush to get you to install whatever they have.

Having a waterfall humidifier system does not make me feel good as the water people will most likley find a way to tax me for not conserving. I have found out for example that my province is banning mid range efficency furnaces as replacement units for residential customers as of next year.. Oh well had wanted to get a trane 80% , I'll have to save up longer for that super high efficency furnace that I hope is as reliable as the older ones. ( meaning a delay in purchasing a new one ) mmmm

90% furnace only has one extra part that 80% don't have. They been pretty good for me, and the ones I've been around.

Here in Minnesota, they don't allow 80% furnace in new homes, only 90%.

I replaced our old '68 furnace 4 years ago, with a Trane Two stage variable speed furnace.

Went from a $160 a month budget plan down to $90 a month budget plan. 4 years later I am around $100 a month plan and the house is now all gas.
