I'm trying to determine the best way to install my ceramic tile over an asbestos laminate floor. I'm planning to use 1/4" Wonderboard, but don't know if I should apply thin set directly to the asbestos floor or if I even need to apply thin set at all before screwing down the Wonderboard. If I apply thin set prior to laying the Wonderboard, should it be a modified thin set or should it be the basic stuff?

Thanks for your help.

asbestos laminate floor

How old is this laminate floor, and are you sure its laminate? What is underneath the laminate?

What the heck is asbestos laminate? I don't think so.

You didn't give much info about the substrate. We don't know if it's appropriate to use a CBU. But if it is, you gotta use thinset under it. What kind of thinset? The Wonderboard instructions tell you to use modified under and over it.
