We are hoping to wrap-up the OVERWHELMING (!!!) "research" phase of Flooring-Installation in our 1,300sqft walk-out basement (only one wall is completely below-grade/underground, with the exception of 3 small window-wells, - other 2 walls are completely walk-out, and 4th is half above & half below grade) and before we place final order, I just want to run our thoughts/questions by all you more experienced Bamboo installers our there b/c there are sooo many conflicting opinions on the Internet and amongst the sales-rep's, it's so hard to know who to believe and I trust this forum is full of good folks with no commission to gain, etc.!!

So, here are our thoughts so far - are they accurate?? THANK YOU, THANK YOU, THANK YOU for ANY/ALL feedback you can offer!!

1) CONCRETE SLAB PREP: So far, we sanded it down to "naked" slab and applied "Radon Seal" - We're going to add rubber sheeting with 1/8" dimples and foil-taped joints to further ensure against moisture.....DO WE STILL NEED MVP BOSTIK?? OR, WILL OUR METHOD BE ENOUGH TO ENUSRE AGAINST MOISTURE AND THUS ALLOW US THE CHOICE OF ENGINEERED OR SOLID STRANDED-BAMBOO?

2) RADIANT HEAT: Hydronic radiant heat, although more efficient to run, too expensive to install. So, we want to go with electric radiant-heat mats which will hopefully provide the heat (along with a Propane Direct Vent Fireplace) for all of downstairs.... WHICH BRAND(S) DO YOU RECOMMEND W/ STRANDED BAMBOO & FOR BEST HEATING OF THE AIR (not just "warming" the floors)?? BOTH ENGINEERED AND SOLID STRANDED OKAY??

3) SUBFLOORING: We were thinking that with the (above) Slab-Prep/Moisture Barriers, we can just float the floor (thus avoiding messy/toxic glues and/or nails that split the Bamboo).... YES?? Do we need anything else for cushioning and/or leveling reasons???

4) FLOATING FLOOR TYPE: Seems either the click/lock or the tongue/groove flooring would be fine if we went with a reputable company..... YES??

5) BEST/HARDEST/MOST-ECO BRAND FOR STRANDED BAMBOO FLOOR??? We want to go with Bamboo that is:
-- FSC/LEED certified (seems most Bamboo now being imported is grown in areas where forests have been clear-cut in order to mass-produce the Bamboo -- NOT so environmentally-friendly!!);
-- Low VOC/PVC content & emissions;
-- Stranded and carbonized (for most hardness?? We have 3 dogs, 2 cats, and a pool from which wet/dripping swimmers will undoubtedly run into basement to use bathroom);
-- And the highest psi, oldest growth, and most exceeding of E-1 Standards we can find/afford.

So far, seems there's a lot of consensus on the following manufacturers - any thoughts on top-three??:
~ ECOTIMBER
~ PLYBOO
~ NIKZAD
~ MORNINGSTAR
~ SHAW
~ YANCHI

6) ADDITIONAL FINISH/TOP COAT TO USE?? In light of the dogs, cats, dripping pool-users, bar-area with sink/beverage fridge/Ice-Maker, overall high-traffic, etc,, is there some type of additional protective-layer (other than area-rugs) we should or CAN apply??

7) ANYTHING ELSE WE SHOULD BE THINKING ABOUT HERE??

I KNOW THIS IS LONG POST -- I HOPE THE SPECIFICS WILL SAVE YOU ALL TIME ON HAVING TO GO BACK & FORTH A LOT TO GET INFO YOU NEED.... I REALLY, REALLY APPRECIATE ANY AND ALL THOUGHTS YOU CAN SHARE WITH US - THIS IS A BIG FINANCIAL COMMITMENT FOR US AND WE JUST CAN'T AFFORD TO GET IT "WRONG" AND HAVE TO REPLACE IT LATER.... THANKS SO MUCH!! :-)

Call each manufacturer and ask if they recommend their product below grade. A lot will tell you absolutely, NO!
