I have an Aprilaire model 224. THe drain hose was still leaking after the furnace shut off. I asked many furnace repair people what the problem was. They all said the valve/solenoid assemby was bad & needed to be replaced for around $79.00. After surfing the web I found that "Orbit" has a solenoid valve #57041 that screws into the exact place of the original solenoid. It can be purchase from Home Depot.com for $7.42 plus another $7.00 S.&H. They may be availible in the Spring from Home Depot stores in the sprinkler department.

After examining the selenoid, all it needed was an new "O" ring on the end of the solenoid's plunger. I got a pack of ten "O" rings for $2.00 from Home Depot. Either no one can figure this out or don't care & just want sell a complete unit for $79.00.

Another hint I found out was putting a indutrial timer box & relay to start & stop the humidifier with 3 "ON's" & 3 "OFF's" for a total hours of 10 hours so the windows do not get any moisture when it gets really cold. Trying to keep up with humidistat when the temperature suddenly dropped just was not working.

Not sure what the price of this timer, a person would be better off upgrading the humidifier and/or humidistat w/ an outdoor sensor.
