Help! I need to know the process for putting a new shower in. I have it framed with a bench seat included and the floor and seat hot mopped. Pipes and drain already installed. Where do I go from here. Heard that I need to cement it all in next for the small cost of only $2000.00!! That doesn't cut it for me. HELP! Just Joyce

Joyce,

Welcome!

Can you take some pictures of what you have now? You can upload them to a photosharing site, then post the IMG url back here in a post.

Never seen or installed a hot mopped shower before, but I know they are somewhat common on the west coast.

Hang in there and lets see if Johnny, Jaz, or someone else can help you along.

What happened to the contractor?

I dont see any hot mop pans in my area. From what I know, California is the only place they do hot mop pans.

Most times with hot mop pans, the walls get mudded. This is probably what your installer was talking about and why it cost so much. If you go this route, its not a diy project.

You could probably use cement board instead of mud, but I think the mud would be better. You would need to fir out the walls so that the cement board will clear the hot mop at the bottom and not bulge the cement board out. Use either a vapor barrier behind the cement board or a surface applied membrane over the cement board. Make sure you have no nails though the cement board at least 3" above the finished height of the curb.

The pan gets a mud bed, just like a pan liner would.

I have heard that building code regarding the construction of showers out your way is a bit different. You might want to check to see what is required before you go off doing your own thing.
