Hi
I am going to reno my basement.
The question is about adding a wall.
Right now the foundation is 7in thick with a stud wall sitting on it that is 3.5in thick. The foundation wall is 2.5ft high.
Since the foundation is thicker then the stud wall at the 2.5ft height there is a lip that is 3.5in that goes into the stud wall.
I plan to build a straight wall from the floor to the ceiling.
There will be a 3.5in space on the foundation wall but above that there will be 10.5in. Do I fill the whole void with insulation?
What about the window sill, do I make it 7in thick.
I had thought about putting the studs on the flat instead this way there would be 1.5in on the foundation wall with 9in void above this.
Thanks
James
