Hi All,
We live in a house that is 30 years old with 3/4" x 2 1/4" stained red oak. I'm fairly sure it was original and was stained and poly'd and not "prefinished". The kitchen area is in need need of some rejuvenation but does not require a complete sanding, staining and poly..ing.

We've had two floor companies in to get bids for the refinishing. Both firms made it clear that if the floors have been cleaned with certain types of cleaners or waxy products that the new poly could very possibly fail. My question is this: Not knowing what was used to clean the floor prior to out moving in what solution would be the best in terms of really eliminating any incorrect type of cleaning products that may have been used in the past? Also, what types of product are safe for wood floor cleaning?

Thanks so much,
