Hello All,

I am installing my first hard wood floor in a house that was built in the mid 1800's. I would like recommendations on a pneumatic nailer. I do not want to spend $500 on a Bostitch nailer. I am looking for something less expensive that is still reliable.

Thanks in advance for your help.
Dan

as an fyi, I'm going to start installing wood floors in my home, and since I'm doing it solo, I'm sure it will take a few weekends at least. It was $370 to rent a pneumatic nailer for a month, and $470 to purchase a Bostitch . I purchased the Bostitch figuring I'd have it to use as I had time, and whenever I finished I could sell it for who knows what, but in the end I'd make out better than renting.

Madfinn,

Thanks for your reply. In that case, it makes perfect sense. I am only installing 100 Sq Ft of flooring in a future nursery. It should only take me a day (maybe 2 if my wife or kids interrupt). Do you know what the approx daily rental fee is for renting a nailer?

Thanks Again,
Dan

Up here in NH for a day it was about $35, then they had weekend and week long rates that saved you a little money.

That doesn't included the rental fee for the compressor and hose, and I don't remember what those fees were (I'm borrowing one from a friend).

I'm doing about 650 sq. ft, and then I might do a few other rooms a little later on, so thats why purchasing made a little more sense to me.

Ask your flooring vendor. For example, my local lumberyard will loan you a pneumatic or manual nailer when you buy the flooring from them.

As mentioned above, about $35/day is a common rental center rate.

For only 100 sf, a manual nailer would be fine, and they tend to seat the flooring better anyway. Just a chore to manual nail larger areas. Been there, done that....
