I have a 50 year old oak floor, original finish pretty much worn off in many places. A Drum sander scares me...I have a larger belt sander 3" x 21" ....I know I can use this, I know it will take longer, but I never see it mentioned to use a belt sander but I see often people are afraid of the drum sanders...am I missing something bad about belt sanders ?

I would think a belt sander would be harde to use than a drum sander. Because the paper is so narrow, you would have to worry about the sides of the belt besides just leaving it in 1 spot too long. Have you thought about using a floor buffer with a sanding disk? It's more diyer friendly:D

They also rent the oscillating type sanders, not nearly as aggressive in removing finish, but easy to handle. Seems like they have built in vac ports as well.
