Does anyone out there know where I can locate my code date? I have checked all over and cannot find it anywhere. I believe it is 2 letters followed by 2 numbers....

Not sure if this is required but it is 2006 Whirlpool gas range, model is GW395LEPS. I called Whirlpool and they would only tell me that the code dates are only for their techs.... (what a scam! lol)

Thanks!

The date codes of appliances are usually mixed in with the serial number.

If I remember correctly, the second letter in the serial number corresponds to a year. I would need to look in my old books to know for sure.

Here is my problem... the service pointer below seems to address my problems with my range - but it states that it is only valid for ranges manufactured between code dates RK01 through RR07.

Here is the info for my range:
model: GW395LEPS
s/n: XT0600552
Mfg on Feb 5/06

Can anyone tell me if this service pointer is valid for my range??

Thanks!

Hello: C-COOP

Aside from locating or knowing the code date, exactly what is the problem(s)? with the appliance? Kindly explain in details.

I doubt the appliance has a problem that isn't already described in the sticky note HERE (http://forum.doityourself.com/showthread.php?t=159808)

Retail parts dealers and appliances parts stores can also help determine any possible problem(s) may be based upon that specific brand and model. Bring the make, model and serial numbers. Dealers and appliances parts stores are listed in the phone book.

BTW: No Bumping Required....:thumbdn: Thread will automatically move the topic back up to the top of the list using the reply button.

OK thanks!

When the oven is on, every 30 min - hour the oven shuts off and gives a PF error. The service pointer I mentioned in an earlier email seems to address the issue, however I am not sure if it applies to my range because of those code dates!

Hello: C-COOP

Oven fault codes are posted in the sticky note HERE (http://forum.doityourself.com/showthread.php?t=159808)

No, I already read that! Doesn't mention "PF" error.

Doesn't mention "PF" error

Display does not have the ability to indicate the cause of a problem using sentences or paragraphs, etc. Therefore, the problem(s) are displayed as codes. Some models use two (2) digit codes while others use four (4) digit codes.

They are not code dates. Code dates are in the model and serial numbers. Error problems are in the codes. A display of "PF" indicates a "Power Failure."

One has to in-vision a "P" in front of an error code. Therefore, a ("P") is in front of F0-E0. Problem is an Analog to Digital failure.

Oven Fault Codes:
>>Exception Note:<<
Chart below does not apply to Whirlpool Models using the "Y" line in the products model numbers. Applies to models using 4 digit displays only.

Attempted fixes:
Disconnect panel for 30 seconds. Should the above error re-appear, replacement of the control is required.

If the above does not resolve the problem:

("P") F1-E1 Defective ERC...Solution: Replace ERC
("P") F2-E0 Shorted Keypa...Solution: Replace Keypad

Below applies only to the two digit display models for the brands above.
("P") F0 Defective ERC...Solution: Replace ERC
("P") F1 Defective ERC...Solution: Replace ERC

Be aware, an "ERC" isn't an inexpensive part....

Nor is it returnable nor is the cost refundable....:thumbdn:

An ERC, Touch Pad or Control Panel are considered electronic parts. Rarely, if ever, returnable and/or refundable and/or exchangeable once purchased and you leave the store. Or the part is installed and/or part is ordered on-line and/or the incorrect part, etc.

Be sure you know exactly what the problem cause is and exactly which part needs to be replaced. Once any such part above is purchased... you own it!...

Nor is there any implied and/or expressed warranty on any part sold to a DIY'er as an over the counter part sales....:alarm:

If I may ...no appliance expert...but I read most threads and I looked at coops service bulletin. SA is pretty much an expert on this stuff..but let me waste some electrons for a bit.

Coop...the date on the bulletin is Apr 2004...your stove was made in May 06. JMO but I doubt if it applies. The ferrite bead kit they mention may already be installed. If its not (and I wouldn't know how to tell) I would imagine its a pretty cheap item, IF you can get it. It may not be considered a standard repair item. Just like cars..sometimes there are things that only the dealer can get..I know...crazy. I would think any helpful service company would be able to look up the "code date " and tell you what you need.

Maybe they changed the format on their codes or something...as I said..not an appliance tech.

SA..I don't think Coop is getting any error codes except PF...period. Apparently the arc from the spark ignitor (I guess it uses spark ignition, I can't find that info) can cause some sort of interference and it sets the fault.

Just so we're clear, I'm not trying to butt in, just killing time...the old 3rd set of eyes thing..ok?

I saw the date on the service pointer as well, but I was thinking I would want to try the $30 part before the $250 part. I also can't tell if it already has the bead kit because I can't tell what it looks like either - but I can buy one...

Exactly right. All it says is PF and shuts the oven off. I can turn it right back on though...

$30? Jeez...for the same sort of things you find on old computer keyboards, phone lines and such. Must be $2 for the parts and $28 for the instructions..

I have to admit I find the whole process insane. I just want to be able to repair my own range and it seems to me that Whirlpool will do whatever it can to prevent me from doing so. I would have been easy to call a tech and get them to look at it - but now it has become a quest for me....

C-Coop,

I have the same range with the exact problem and wonder if you found a solution yet? I see your post was in March so I'm keeping my fingers crossed.

I've already replaced the touch-pad (control panel) for a different issue and am not impressed with the reliabilty of this range in the three years that we've owned it.
