I recenlty replaced a three way switch to operate a hallway fixture. A couple weeks later a bulb in my bathroom (on the same circuit) went out. As I was screwing in the bulb it turned on even though the bathroom light switch was off. Turning the switch on and off has no effect, the light remains on. I checked the contact in the socket of this recessed light but it appears normal. After pulling out a clump of hair in frustration I decided to turn here for help. There are only two wires leading into the fixture, a black (confirmed as hot) and the white. Does anyone have any ideas? I'm hoping that the installation of the three way switch on the same circuit is a coincidence and not the cause of the problem.

It's probably a coincidence. I suspect that the switch for the bathroom light has gone bad with the internal contacts having fused together. I assume the bathroom light was okay after you changed the hall light switch for the interim time period.

If I am correct then you need to change the bathroom light switch.

I'm with Furd on this one. Disconnect the bathroom switch. If the light goes out then the bathroom switch is bad. If it stays on then you have other problems.

That was it. A new switch made everything right again. Thanks.
