Our hardwood floors have taken some abuse before we purchased the house. We believe there has been some water damage and neglect. They are oak floors that have been stained to a dark mahogany. Some areas are very weathered and others are in great condition. The polyurethane has been peeling up so I did a quick sand and re-polyed the floors with 4 coats. For some reason the poly will not adhear and is peeling off once again. To save time, and possibly money, we're considering laying a laminate floating floor over the hardwood floors. Is this an okay way for laying laminate flooring? I know we'll have a concern with doors with the added heigth, but is there anything else I need to be aware of?

The laminate will decrease the value of the home. Id have the hardwood re finished.

For the cost of a decent laminate, you could possibly have the floors professionally finished.
You have a contaminate(could be too mush stain), or you sanded too fine, for the finish to peel.
