While remodeling I am going to replace all the 90* corners with the newer style rounded corners.
There are 2 types of rounded corners that I am looking at, and I am not sure if there is any difference between the two.
Both are pre-taped
One has the tape on the outside, metal on the inside
The other has metal on the outside tape on the inside
Is one used for one purpose and the other for another or are they different only for people's personal preference??

The only difference would be if you mud them on or nail them on. I know you said they had paper on them but i can picture what you mean by metal on the outside and tape on the inside. Ive seen nail on with paper over it. So make sure know what you are going to do before you buy it , nail it on or mud it on. I prefer to mud all my bead on.

Paper on the flanges. But the rounded part won't touch anything. You set it in place with compound. No nailing.

IF you intend to texture and IF you can do it without messing up the paper go with the paper on the outside. IF you are going to make the walls smoooooth and ESPECIALLY IF you think you will mess up the paper go with the metal on the outside. Install either with mud.

I love my rounded corners.. I dont remember any paper on them though, perhaps mind were all metal. I paid some guys to mud and primer the house though.. Im more of a scratch and dent mudder, not a whole house (way too big for me..ugh, what a job..).
The only caveat I can think of.. is our baseboard is pretty thick (hand cut pine, 4"x3/4").. and the drop-ceiling .. neither are too compliant with a rounded corner, so you get a small gap where the square object meets the round object. Its not noticeable once you get used to it.. keep it in mind if you have some high profile areas though.

Thanks for the pic. Definitley clears it up. The bead with the metal showing is for INSIDE corners and the one with the paper is for OUTSIDE corners. You mud both on. Make sure you use all purpose mud and use a lot. Also make sure you cut back the drywall 1/4" on each side or else the bead wont sit right.
