I've got a leaking shower head in a stand alone shower. Thought it might have been a bad washer in the detachable shower head. Replaced with a new detachable head, and the problem is still there. I took the control knob off the faucet and checked for bad washer or loose fittings. Didn't find any. Any ideas what the problem may be?

You could install one of those shower-arm shut off valves, if need be. It screws onto where the shower head would have screwed on. Then when that is on, then you screw the shower head onto IT.

Your problem just started doing this? Yet the washer is okay? I do have to say that is rather odd, if that is the case. You never found any weird dents or creases in the washer, which might indicate a flake of rust or solder getting between the washer and seat? Did you take a light and carefully look at the seat for any flaws in it?

Just to be sure...new showerheads have vacuum breakers in them (I think) to let water drain out after the valve is closed. Does it leak all the time, or just right after the valve is turned off.

This drove me crazy for a day or 2 last time I changed one after the Gov rules had changed.

Those hand-held ones do.

But the shower head should not keep dripping after valve is off and shower head placed back on the holder.

I think these breaks on these types of shower heads are to prevent someone from placing the shower head in say some dirty pail of water, or whatever, and have it back-syphon into the city water supply if water service were disrupted.

But I still can't see how the shower head would drip once the valve was shut off and the vacuum break kicked in. You'd think any dripping, if there were any, would be very short lived.

Now, on showers with bath tubs, you can get dripping to occur for awhile when it drains back out the tub spout. But the poster has a shower only with no other point of water relief.

The original shower head started to drip two years after it was installed. It drove me crazy to the point I counted the drips. It continued to drip every 8 secs. like clock work. The new one doesn't drip as frequently. Instead it releases a rapid steady stream of water for about 3-4 secs. then stops. Cycle repeats about once every 2 mins.
