Hey all,
I live in a condo with no ceiling lights or attic access whatsoever. If only I had thought about that way back when I bought it. ANYWAY, I have always wanted to put in ceiling fans but didn't feel like ripping up the wall and ceiling in order to do it. Now though, the HOA took out some hard wired smoke detectors and the wires were just cut off. Do you guys think that I could cut a hole, put a brace and wire her up? It sounds much too easy which makes me think that it is.
So anyone have experience with this?

First I think you need to verify if this was part of an alarm system or were they 120 volt smoke alarms.
If they were 120 volt wiring they should not have just cut off the wires without capping them and placing a blank cover over the junction box. There is the possiblity that both ends were disconnected and abandoned in place.
If you followed your plan you would need to use a remote or the pull chains to operate the fan.

Yeah, the wires were just cut and not capped off or anything. They just cut and then put a white cover over everything. I'll call over to the HOA tomorrow and ask.
And as for turning on the fan... yeah I have no problem with a remote or pull chain.
Thanks for the response!
