Hello all, I am having some trouble programming the zones on my Ademco Lynxr system. According to my quick start guide, in programming mode, I am to enter:

*83 and A01 is supposed to show on the screen (it does)

I enter the zone number and instead of getting a "c" prompt, I get A03.

I had been having this problem for about a couple of days and decided to call a handyman I know who has installed them before. The handyman was having the same issues but eventually got it programmed, when I asked him how he did it, he said he never did get the "c" prompt, but at the A03 prompt, entered the serial number of the transmitter at each location and it worked. I took his word for it.

I was setting up the delays for enter and exit and couldn't figure out why the alarm would go off when I accessed my garage door (which we uses primarily for entrance/exit). After reading your FAQ, I found that only the front and back doors can be set up for delay and my garage is set up as a window according to the default zone chart.

I tried to change the zone programming, but cannot get it to work. I really hope someone can help.:wall:

Read over the *56 programming instructions instead. There's a reason *83 is called "expert mode".

Thanks, I'll give that a try. I didn't realize that *83 was called expert mode.

These days they actually call it "enhanced sequential mode" but the original name was "expert" mode. Basically it skips a lot of steps for enrolling devices. It's mostly useful for adding keyfobs.

From the installer manual:

"By using this mode, you can add, delete, or change the serial number of a transmitter in a zone, but retain all other existing data that has been programmed for that zone. Note that the *83 Enhanced Sequential mode requires that all zone information must first be entered using the *56 Enhanced Zone Programming mode for all zones below zone number 26 (4 button key area).
Note: Any zone which already has a serial number learned in will not be accessible in *83 Enhanced
Sequential mode!"

Thanks. I finally did get it all set up but now have another problem and 2 questions.

First the problem. While testing the system, everything seemed to be working fine. I was happy I got it all working and my wife would be happy. When my wife got home, I was showing her the setup in test mode and zone 3 went into fault. I took the cover off the wireless sensor and the panel beeped fast I guess because of the tamper switch. I swapped out batteries but no help, the fault would not clear even after punching in the installer code and hitting off twice. I now notice that when I have the system chime on, if I open the door, the system tells me that it is open, when I close the door, it does the same. neither the transmitter or magnet have been moved.

Question 1: According to the PCB's and PLCC inside the unit, I have a LYNXR-EN. I have never been able to get it to enter voice program mode. Installer code + 888 does nothing. Any suggestions?

Question 2: When trying to set the voice descriptors, the codes for the LYNXR-EN were incorrect. I did some digging online and found a manual for LYNX marked "alpha draft" June 5th 1998. The voice vocabulary index was much smaller with different codes that did work. Is it possible that this unit is not a LYNXR-EN?
