Hi all,
I am performing my first installation of a humidifier. I have a horizontal heating system in the crawlspace of my house. Looking at the diagram on the box it shows that the bypass duct should be mounted on the return end (air in to hvac) and that the humidifier should be mounted on the supply (air out to house) end of the hvac.
I spoke with a friend who is a handyman and has installed many of these units and he said that he normally mounts it in the opposite way. The unit is mounted on the return end and the bypass duct is mounted on the supply end.
To me that makes sense for two reasons:
1.) I dont have a lot of room on the supply end to mount the humidifier.
2.) If the humidifier works because hot air is flowing through the pad then to mount the bypass duct on the cold air return end wouldnt make any sense. Cold air from the house would flow over the pad and my thought is that it wouldnt work well.
Can someone help me out here? Thanks!!
Josh

The unit can be mounted any side if the system. The air always flows from supply to the return, no matter where you mount the humidifier.
Is your craw space always above freezing?

Thanks a million! The crawlspace is air conditioned with the house so it is always above freezing. I will mount the unit on the return end and put the bypass duct on the supply end.
Thanks!

Like Jay said it works ok. Its just when you put the unit on the Plenum side it get's a hotter air and will pick up more humidity for you.;)
