I just had a Trane 16LXI split system installed(both outside and inside units). When the outside temp is below certain temp (35-40), the unit seems to run continually. It got down to 24 the other night and I don't think it ever cut off, although the aux. heat didn't come on(I think). Does this sound right? The installing contractor says yes!
Since I'm used to my old system which came on, got the temp up to what it should be, and then cut off. When the temp got below 30 I manually switched the aux. on since the unit did not have an outside themostat control.
By the way I'm a new member, so I hope I'm doing this right. thanks

At 40 it should cut off. At 30 it should run all the time. Turning on and off will use more electricity than running all the time.

What was your old system?
