Gas and Oil Home Heating Furnaces - Trane ycx gaspack fan starts but no spark

I have a 1997 Trane ycx the problem is :

-small fan starts than gas valve goes open but igniter won't ignite or sparks.

Sounds like you may have a hot surface ignition system rather than a spark ignition system, and the igniter may be burned out.

I'd check that first.

the gas valve opens for the pilot only :eek:right.........you shouldn't have the main burner open up till the pilot is proofed back to tell the main gas valve to open with flame present.you can manually light the pilot on each cycling of the furnace for now to warm the place up.the pilot gas will shut off when the stat satisfies.

I'm sure the igniter is the kind does sparks.part # IGN00033 Trane, American Standard Igniter: Electrode.

I got power in the orange wire (igniter wire) once the pilot valve turns on, but there was no spark.

put the gas valve in the OFF position.if you can remove the orange wire going into the pilot rod assembly......hold the insulated end with a needlenose pliers and try to spark it to the burner or cabinet inside the burner section on a restart right after the ID starts.if you get a spark holding that orange wire with the pliers .....the ground at the rod is missing or not coming out of the pilot assembly some sand paper on the rod with a couple of light turns on it.

I did it all, no luck so far, I checked the orange wire w/ohmmeter again i got 62 volts on ac and 200 on dc i do not know if that make sense.
