hi, all

I have a GE Space Maker microwave oven. One night, while I used it to heat my banquet meat ball dinner, and then I heard a pooo from the microwave. I opened the door, a strong burning smell came out. After that, the microwave will no longer heat. I have American Home Shield appliance warranty which turned out a pretty bad company though. They sent out a tech to check the problem. The tech came in, took a look, told me there were several metal spots which came out from the inside. He told me the magnetron failed and he would need to order the part and then left. The next day, AHS callled me said my claim was denied because it is not normal wear. I was so pissed. Anyway, back to the problem, I think it must be the magetron failed too. I took some pictures for it.

What do you guys think? Is it easy to fix? AHS said the was not normal wear, I really don't think so..:madhell:
Thanks..

No appliance tech...but I've dealt with electronics a loooong time.

Do TV dinners still have foil...or are they plastic and cardboard?

If the metal thats in there (kinda hard to see) came from something letting go in the guts of the machine..I guess they consider that something other than NORMAL? Well, so would I, but then normal means it works correctly, until something just wears out. If it broke, it no longer works...huh?

Most things considered normal wear would be... for instance..belts, tires, brakes, etc etc. And those are NOT covered by most manufacturers warranty

What's normal wear and tear...the paint on the handle is worn from opening the door? The light bulb burns out? Makes no sense.

Now, if they had said you placed a stainless steel frying pan inside and set it for 2 hours..it would be up to them to prove.

Anyway, I would contest it in writing and ask them to explain what exactly they are saying.

But, no..I don't think you want to invest in getting it repaired. From my experience, it will probably be better to buy new if it doesn't work out. I may be wrong... some of the appliance Pro's should be around eventually.
