I am trying to figure out a budget for several electric-related items but don't have much of an idea of how long they would normally take. Can someone give me an estimate?
My house is a ranch, no basement (odd in New Hampshire), but easy attic access. Here are the projects:
- Lighting in bathrooms: currently both bathrooms have a hideous fluorescent light (like a 2' by 3' rectangle) plus a single bulb-light in the ceiling. They are controlled by separate switches on a 3-way switch (one switch for each lighting plus another for the fan). I want to get rid of the fluorescent light and instead have that switch control 2 strips of lighting, one strip of 2 lights to be placed above each of 2 vanities in each bathroom. Does this seem like a pretty straightforward job? I would have a total of 4 lighting fixtures added to the wall so am trying to estimate the total time needed for this.
- Ceiling fans: I want to add 3 ceiling fans with light fixtures, one in each of 3 bedrooms. There is NO ceiling light fixture currently so the electrician would be installing from scratch and adding a wall control switch box. Can someone estimate the time required for each fan?
Ballpark estimates would be great. Thanks in advance!

Neither of these tasks is very complicated. Some items that may alter the cost are if the circuit available to power the fans has enough capacity for the new loads. If not a new circuit would need to be run from the panel. The new circuit may require AFCI protection depending on which code cycle in in effect in your area.
In the bathroom plumbing vents may affect whether a box can be placed in the wall without hitting the vent.
Labor costs can vary greatly so it is best to get some local estimates.
