Just got quoted on a new Trane XLi15 2-ton system to replace an old Comfort Maker.

Specifics:

Trane Xl15i - 15 SEER 2 Ton model# 4TWR2024
2.5 Ton Variable Speed Air Handler model# 4TEE3F31 with 10 kw heatpackage

Also included is a new pad, electrical disconnect box and a Honeywell 4000 Tstat.

Price quoted is $5390, does this seem reasonable? We live in metro DC, townhouse.

Also quoted for an Aprilaire 400 humidifier for an additional $450.

Thanks in advance for your help.

Sounds fair to me but we can't see the job!

Agree with the airman.

Was a load calc done?

No load calc was done. The townhouse is approx 1800 square feet and the old unit was 2-ton. Only problem was a hot upstairs in the summer and cold basement in the winter but I'm hoping the variable speed blower can fix that.

Is it worth upgrading to a better Tstat such as the VisionPro IAQ with this system?

Thanks.

The VS will not help if you have hot and cold spots now. You have duct work problems have them sized to do the job. The company that installs needs to do a heat load on the home!!!!!!!!!! This is a must!!!!! Maybe the unit is to small to heat and cool the home only way to no is to do the heat load. The company that gave you the price Id toss that quote in the trash because they skipped a very big part of the job with no heat load what else will they skimp on! IAQ stat is a very good stat.

If your not using dehumidifiction an humidifyer or zoning an IAQ maybe overkil.

A VisionPro 8000 might be just right.
