We are new homeowners and quite handy. We love the house, but the builder was cheap when it came to lighting. There is a single Ceiling fixture in our kitchen. While it does an "ample" job of lighting the area, we'd like to put in recessed lighting and get rid of the fixture.
The question is this: is it worth it to go through the expense in a brand new home? since we're not getting rid of an outdated fixture, will we see a return on investment if done properly or would we be better served to just live with the current light and put that money somewhere else?
thanks!

I say go for it. I think it gives a classy look.
Depending on how ceiling joists are run, it may be a pretty simple install without having to cut a lot of sheet rock. If it's a single story with attic access, even better.
Track lighting could be an option if you want to highlight certain areas.
