I'm redoing a small kitchen. 10' x 10' with an 8' ceiling. I plan on installing recessed lighting. I was thinking about installing 4 4" cans. Will this provide enough lighting for a kitchen? What style bulb should I used. Should i install 5" cans instead?

Personally, I'd go with 5, 1 in the center and 4 around the perimeter. You don't want to cut yourself short on light, you can always dim them or lower wattage bulbs, if its too bright.

Bulb style is up to you, especially if you want to be able to dim them, or if you're thinking of energy savings etc.

Without doing a layout I would install probably 6 6" cans on roughly 4' centers.

I don't feel that the 4" cans with 50 watt bulbs provide enough light.
