I am going to post pics, which will be pretty self-explanatory. The sink is "built-in" to the countertops, so I don't want to replace sink until we re-do kitchen in 5 or so years...but this thing drips, i'll tighten it up, cpl weeks later drips again. Honestly it's just a big PIA. Any ideas on a replacement design or where to start? thanks a lot in advance

lol not commercial, just old...
another thing that's bothering me...notice the brass fitting that the C & H handles fit into...I have to tighten these up in order for the water to stop dripping. I try to unscrew them completely, and it hits a certain point and I can't go anymore...there is a small screw in the end of each handle, but it's so corroded it's tough to get out. I assume that little screw has to come out before the fitting will?

There is a possibility that several of your neighbors have (or had) the same faucet if the homes in your neighborhood were built around the same time or by the same builder. If so, you might also have a local "old time" hardware store or plumbing shop and they may have everything you need to rebuild that faucet.
I had the same sort of problem only it was with a single handle bath/shower faucet. There was a local plumbing shop and when I brought some of the parts to the oldest-looking man at the parts counter he immediately recognized them and said I had a Neidecker (sp?) made by Kohler and yes, he had all the parts. I don't remember what they cost but I think I received change from a ten dollar bill. Of course that was about thirty years ago.

Have you tried to move the handles forward again once the brass bonnet nut stops turning?
(That is -if that indeed is the 'bonnet nut', and not a 'packing nut', with the bonnet nut being shadowed in your pic. A 'bonnet nut' is what holds the entire valve stem in the mixer valve. Therefore they have to be even slightly larger than the width of the worm-geared valve stem. The 'packing nut' is smaller, and has a form of packing under it so that when you tighten it down, it stops water from dripping or leaking out the valve stem/packing nut.)
With some design worm-geared valve stems, when the bonnet nut no longer can back off any further, you can rotate the handle more, then continue to unscrew, etc., etc., until it comes off. But if the rotation is wrong, causing you to have to rotate the handle back in TOWARDS the sink, you are 'you know whated'. In that case you will have to extract that screw and handle first.

Speaking of the devil: Less than 2 hours ago, I had to rotate the faucet handle, as mentioned in my preceding post, in order to get the bonnet nut off.

What is the spacing between the two pipes that it fastens to?

best I can remember that middle section is just nothing...just where the nose fits down into with a compression nut and washer....since the pipes run upwards, the weight of the unit and the faceplate keep it pushed up against the back of the sink...I don't think it's actually fastened in the middle in the back....
I hope that's what you were asking

I hope that's what you were asking If that was aimed at me, no. The faucet is connected to two water pipes. I was asking center to center distance. We may be able to figure a replacement. Well maybe not me but one of the pros.

now it's leaking even when I tighten down on the handles as hard as I can...:wall: for a while there I could just get a wrench and tighten the nut and it would stop...now I guess teh washer's completely gone.
where would the washer be on this system?
