I would be interested to get opinions on attaching flagstone to a cinder block wall. I'm building an entrance way to our property and nearing the stage of rocking the bricks... any suggestions?

Did you pour a brick ledge, or are yuo planning on adhering the stone to the wall?

I do have a brick ledge, but I would prefer to attach the flagstone to the blocks. My walls are 2 ft and 6 ft in height.

Unless your stone is less than 1-1/2" in thickness, it will need to be stacked upon the brick ledge instead of adhered to the block.

I checked carefully and I would say the stone averages 1-1/4" to 1-1/2". I showed the stones to a local stone mason here and he suggested using wall anchors around the stone using a ramset into the brick. The anchors would be set in the joints around the stone. I would appreciate your thoughts or recomendations....Thanks

If you are adhering the stone to the block, then ties are a waste of time and money. They will do nothing. Buy some latex modified thinset and attach the flag with that. You may need to use spacers for the mortar joints.

I appreciate the information, that sounds good to me. It will be a couple of weeks before I start hanging rock, I'll let you know how it's going. Thanks again for the help..Keith
