I took up peel and stick tiles from my bathroom and when I took off the plastic molding strip along the floor there was dark brown/black glue behind it. Could this glue contain asbestos? There was no glue under the flooring, just the strip. The house was built in 1956 and I'm not sure how long the strip has been there. Should I be concerned? Do they make any kind of black adhesive today that this could be?

It is likely some form of tile or flooring adhesive. It almost certainly does not contain asbestos and if you are planning on removing it and that is your concern you'd have to either gring it into dust or eat it to come close to being effected by it.Otherwise it is not an issue unless it remains exposed and available for a child to pick at etc....that said it probably does not contain asbestos.
There are flooring adhesives around but whether they match a 50 year old type is unlikely and unknowable.
