Every year or so, I have to lug out the DSC PowerSeries 832 installer's manual and figure out how to tweak it.

Each time it takes me the whole weekend to figure out, and I'm left with a headache. Usually the security system comes out the better for it.

Problem:

I have a new FloodStop shutoff valve on my water main. It shuts off the main line when it detects water. I also has a normally closed loop that can be connected to an alarm panel.
I have a DSC PowerSeries 832.
The house came with 11 wired zones already. I setup 3 wireless zones myself a few years ago (that took a few weekends :-)

Hopeful Solution: Does any one know:

How do I install the 2 wires currently coming out of the FloodStop alarm into the 832? Where do I wire them? Do I need resistors? I've never setup a wired zone before...
How do I program the DSC 832 to set up the device on wired Zone 12 as "24 Hour Water"? I assuming this is what I want to do? Is there any other programming that I should do?

Thanks and have a nice weekend!

-Glenner.

If you have been working with this system before, there should be no real mystery.

If you already have 11 hardwired zones, that tells me that you have a hardwired expander, and have at least 5 more unused zones. Run a 2 conductor from the device to the panel location.

If the device provides a normally closed contact connection, then it wires to the security system just like any of your existing hardwired zones. Then you pick the appropriate zone type for that zone (which you have already figured out).

If your system is using resistors, then use the resistor. If you have the resistor requirement turned off; don't.

The only other programming beyond setting the zone type is the you may need to enable the zone in location 203.

Thanks MrRon,

Mostly I needed your encouragement to get started on this project. I got it working yesterday. I need to program section 203 to turn on the zone. And section 003 to define the zone as "24Hr Water".

It just seems like there should be a cheat sheet that would quickly explain all the steps and what keys to enter to setup a new zone, since that would seem like a common thing to do. The manual seems daunting at times... :-)

Thanks for your help. -Glen.
