what's the easiest way to accurately cut a 2x4 at a 50 degree angle? draw the angle and cut it with skillsaw? draw angle and cut with jigsaw? make a jig for miter saw? i need to cut a bunch of them so i'm really after ease quickness and accuracy...
thanks.

I'm guessing you have a miter box and it does not go to 50 degrees, so setting up a jig would be the fastest way to cut numerous pieces at 50 degrees.

I agree with Bill, but most larger miter saws go to 50 degrees. And, just out of curiosity, why?

plumb cuts on some rafters.
and actually for the pitch i think i'm gonna use, it's going to be a 55 degree cut.
so i guess making a jig for my miter saw will be the way to go unless someone knows a quicker way.
i'm thinking the easiest way would be to use the circular saw but each cut wouldn't be perfect, how big a deal is that?

generally for rafters a circular saw is fine, of course that depends on your skill with a circular saw. A simple template to mark them and zip they are done. I usually make a full length template and cut both ends and the birds mouth all at once.
good luck

I agree with Bud, for rafters lay your pattern out with a framing square then cut with circular saw. Do not over cut the birdsmouth, clean up the cut with a hand saw. Being exact with rafter framing is not critical.

I use a skil saw then my hammer to remove the cut piece o the bird mouth. Usually an olfa knife is enough to clean the cut.
Oh and i dont set the depth of the shoe on my saw, this is important.
