I'm finally about to start wiring my alarm system and have a question with hidden door sensors: (I know they have to be on the opening side...) is it best to put the sensor in the top of the door, near the edge or on the side of the door in the edge, or is it just preference?

Also, my first door is a steel fire door in a steel frame. Any issues with steel doors? I'm looking for the smallest sensor diameter to have to drill, but something that's good quality - any recommendations?

Thanks guys.

I would recommend you use at least a 3/8 inch contact and mount the contact on open side of the door or jamb. On the steel door you will need a contact that is for steel doors or use a plunger type switch, as steel doors tend to pull more on the magnet than the switch.
