I plan to purchase a new area rug for my living room but don't know what color to get. My current rug is beige with flowers, and it's too plain. I'd like a solid color - something that pops a little more.
My floors are natural red oak, my furniture is cherry, and my walls are painted in "lunch bag," so you can probably visualize the color. I also have leather sofas that are neutral, kind of a buttery camel color.
My husband loves blue, but I'm not sure if any shade of blue would look good with the warm cherry furniture.
Thanks for any suggestions....

Hi clfelch and welcome to the forums!
This depends a lot of the furniture style, light, etc
can you post a picture of the room? (set the picture in photobucket, flicket etc and post the link here)

Thanks! I hope I'm doing this correctly. Here are two shots of the room:

Decorating is not my forte, but I can't afford to hire a pro. I think the room is just a little blah with all of the neutral colors and am hoping a new rug and maybe some colorful throw pillows might jazz it up a bit.

Hi clfelch,
In my opinion, currently you have too many focal points in the room. A new and neutral area rug may help to harmonize the room
I would go with a burgundy color (solid or with strips using two shadows)
Your husband's idea of the blue will look good, however, it must be mostly a medium blue
