My dining room table was somewhat recently refinished. It’s my grandmother’s from the 40’s. The refinisher used all environmentally safe products and was quite fastidious. There is no lacquer or other protective sealant on it. He told me to put nothing on it – including any water or dampness - which I thought my cleaning lady clearly knew. But she recently put Murphy’s Oil Soap all over it. It left a film and I’m concerned in some areas maybe some damage. What is best way to get the film off?

Not sure how you eat, but spills are likely, and they are usually wet. Lacquer is a poor finish for a dinning room table as is shellac. Some oil finishes work well, but my choice would be polyurethane. Not sure what was used, so first try denatured alcohol. If it leaves a white surface, try lacquer thinner, then alcohol. Then poly.
