the unit will not spray hot water or cleaning solution; neither from the base unit nor the stair attachement. (suction works fine and brushes spin fine).

sounds like either the pump is bad or if its a belt driven pump that needs to be checked and repaired...dont really use consumer based carpet machines much so cant really say past that
