I have a fan with four open glass trumpets below (these bulbs are easy to change) and a solid round 2" high by 14" round glass with metal above and below the glass. This is above the fan blades, which are above the trumpets. The thing has 3 chains: reverse, speed and lights. Pulling the lights chain turns on the 2" round + 4 trumpets, just the 2" round or just the 4 trumpets.
Problem: how do I get into the top part to change the bulbs? They appear to be fully enclosed.

Perhaps if you posted a picture on Photobucket or another photo sharing site someone could get a better idea of your situation.

The Wikipedia ceiling fan article top photo has a white metal fan motor housing. The vertical drop (about 2") on my fan motor housing is glass and there are burnt bulbs inside. I need to know how to get the motor housing open to get at the bulbs.
