How much of a gap should I use when installing baseboard moulding,if, there is going to be carpet laid in the near future?

General rule of thumb is 1/2" which is usually the thickness of the base board so you can use scrap pieces of base under the base to hold it off of the floor as you nail it to the wall.

It's always wise to check with the carpet installer or know what type of carpet you intend to use as some low pile carpets may need the base lower or you'll need to install shoe moulding to hide the gap.
