Kinetico has recently upgraded their K-R/O GX (GAC final filter) and VX (VOC filter) to the new K5.
The warranty from seven years to ten years (including memebrane if follows a Kinetico softener new/used). This represents the confidence Kinetico has on its unit.
The K5 has a membrane pump which increases production. Previously, an installer prefilled the tank at the shop so he could check his work before he leaves. Now, the K5 fills so quickly that he can go with an empty tank and do that before he leaves the site.
All lines are now 3/8" instead of a mix of 3/8" and 1/4" lines. This provides a big difference when filling containers. EEven the faucets have been upgraded for fast flow.
Included in the basic set up, it comes with a prefilter a membrane, of course, and a post filter. The K5 can come with an additional two filters for specilized problems like arsenic, virus/bacteria, perchlorate, chloramine, VOCs or even adding minerals to the water for taste and nutrients, all in one unit. That makes it a pretty amazing unit and like no others.
The tank, which still uses water pressure instwad of an air cahrge to drive water, has been simplified by removing the mechanism from within the tank to the unit, itself. This provides even more space in the tank for water and easier servicing if it needs it. It has two hoses instead of four coming from the tank.
An additional booster systems can be added to push water to remote locations and problematic icemaker/fridge hook-ups. Again, the 3/8 lines are a big improvement here as well.
The service guys love this as installation time has been cut in half and more easily done. So far, not one call back from our shop.
Kinetico is offering an upgrade program for older K ROs giving credit for units even 25 years old or more. "Unfortunately", if well maintained, many of those older units are still working very well...;-} Kinetico still produces filters and parts for those older units so they can be maintained.
There are other improvements or innovations in addition to those mentioned. The older K RO was in a class of itself. The new K5 just jumped way ahead.
