I have a 55" Toshiba Projection screen TV Model TP55E51 with a chasis# TAC 9551 built May 96. Today the on button is blinking as if it has a power problem, No sound or picture. If it hit it twice it stays on only momentarily and then begins to blink again a sready flash. Any ideas where to start. I am an HVAC tech so I have tools and meters. I tried to pull the plug to reboot but no luck:wall:

It's too old for me to pull up the service manual for this set.The normal power problem for this set is the voltage regulator ic.It should be mounted on a heatsink close to the rear of the tv and where the ac cord plugs into the chasis.Can't remember the part # , but if you get the # off the ic and google it , it should tell you if you have the right one.Or you can post a picture of the chasis and i can point it out.

Is there a way I can test the board to see if its the problem rather than just replacing parts till it works?

One way to make certain the problem is on the power supply module is:
Check the HOT transistor.Make sure the center leg is not shorted to chasis ground.This is the large transistor mounted on the heatsink facing the transformer with the big black wires coming out.
If it's not shorted then you need to check the voltage on the center leg of the transistor.It should be about 130 volts dc to ground.You may have to unplug the set and then have someone plug it back in and hit the power button while you monitor the volts.
If theres no voltage present on the trany at all , then the problem is going to be on the power supply module.

after thinking it over, and looking behind that panel a second time, I think I'll let a tech do his job, and I'll do mine... I have bad memories of messing with a TV when I was about 13. I thought I would be clever... I pulled the plug on an old TV and patiently waited 6 months before opening up the back of the set, thinking I was safe... I was wrong...POW!
