We received a VCR/DVD player combo and I was trying to hook it up. The two components work fine individually but I am unable to record anything off of the tv. I ran an input cable from the DirecTV box to the back of the player but when I record it just gives me a black staticky picture. Is there a step that I am missing?

If you have DTV sat. the only thing you can record is what your watching.Make certain you have the vcr tv channel set to channel 3 or 4,depends on what channel you have the DTV box set to.You can set the box on a channel and record that channel while your away.
