I am tring to hang crown molding in a bedroom that has a step down and the ceilings are 2 different levels. I would like to see if your suppose to box the 1 ceiling and U shape the other. I don't hava a clue what to do hope there is someone that has ran in this situation.

You are correct, run the crown normally at the upper ceiling and do three walls at the lower ceiling, returning it to the wall where it meets the upper.

What I did in my master bed rm which has 1/2 of the ceiling lower than the other was to just use the crown on the higher section. The 3 piece crown comes down to close to the same height as the section that is lower. Helps to make the walls all appear to be the same height.
