We just bought a new home with berber installed throughout. I want to remove the living room and hall carpet and cut it off at the bedroom doors. I was told that their is trick to it.What is it? I really cannot afford to pay someone to do it for me:wall:

you need to find how are the rows running, basically berber carpet are rows of loops together, it is very distinguisable you will be able to see how the loops run, so if the rows are running parallel to the door you are in luck then you just get yourself a screw driver, philips works good or an ice pick, you pick a row that will be a few inches away from the door, towards the outside of the room you want to keep the carpet in, and cut in between the rows, there is a special tool for these, then install a tack strip at the door frame edge and tack the carpet then you cut the excess of carpet again in between the rows.
Not sure if HD will rent the tool or not if you are carefull you can use a regular knife and go slow opening the path with the crew driver/ice pick.
If rows are not running parallel to the door you still can do it but it will take a little more work (lots of patience for first timers) and you will need a glue gun.Beer 4U2
