Hello,

I'm building a theater room in my basement and am wondering if this is possible. Im going to have 8 pot lights in the room. I want to be able to run 4 light on one switch and the other 4 on another switch. My question is.....can I run both switches ans all 8 pot lights on the same circuit. If so how exactly will I need to wire it up so that the switches don't interfere with eachother.

Thanks for any help.

8 can lights shouldn't pose a problem on a 20 amp circuit. Use 12-2 wiring. Choose which 4 lights you want for which switch and wire them parallel to each other (black to black and white to white (we assume grounding is connected always). Do the other 4 lights the same way. Bring your power into your double switch box. Pigtail the black wire and send one to each of the bottom screws of the switches. Bring your parallel wiring from the closest light in each group of lights to the switch box. Hook the white wires from the lights to the white wire in your switch box. Hook one black to the top screw on one switch and the other black likewise on the other switch.
Now each switch will operate a group of 4 lights. To enhance the theater, you may want to employ digital dimmers instead of toggle switches. More ambiance.
